Introduction

Tuberculosis is still one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in South Africa. The emergence of multi drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is one of the challenges in the efforts to control TB. TB can be transmitted in any settings but is most likely to be transmitted in health care settings when health care workers and patients come in contact with persons who have unsuspected TB disease, who are not receiving adequate treatment, and who have not been isolated from others. All health-care settings need an infection-control program designed to ensure protection. The TB Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in Health Care Facilities short course aims to provide consistent and up-to-date information about TB infection prevention and control, methods of reducing the risk of TB infection and to reduce the risk and dealing with potential TB exposure. This is a basic TB control course that can be followed up by an advanced course
